In chapters 12 and 13, Jem and Scout experience new things in their lives. In chapter 12, instead of going to their normal church they went to Calpurnia's church. Some members stared at them because they didn't want whites to be at their church. Jem and Scout noticed that the way they did things at Cal's church were different from their's.
In chapter 13, their Aunt Alexandra comes to live with Jem, Scout and Atticus. Atticus wanted her to come and stay so that someone else can loook over Jem and Scout. Aunt Alexandra said that she wanted to make Scout more feminine and act lady like. Scout didn't want to do that because she knows that Aunt Alexandra wouldn't let her play around in the summer. This will have more of an effect on Jem and Scout more than Calpurnia's church.

Ability Chapter 10

The main theme in chapter 10 was abilities. Scout didn't think that Aticus couldn't do anything because he was fifty years old. All the other dads could play football or do other cool things. Scout wishes that Atticus could do something she could brag about besides reading. One day there was a "mad" dog going down the street. Mr. Tate wanted Atticus took kill Tim Johnson, the dog, but Atticus didn't want to. But Mr. Tate forced him to and Atticus shot and killed Tim Johnson in one shot. Scout was amazed at that and found something to tell people about. Atticus told Jem and Scout that they shouldn't tell anyone. Scout didn't know why but she was happy that Atticus could do something.

Chapter 7 & 8
In chapters 7 and 8, the main point was courage. Jem needed courage to tell Scout about the thingas he saw at the Radley house. Scout and Jem needed courage to write a letter to whoever was putting things in the tree hole.
Jem needed courage in chapter 8 to ask Miss Maudie for snow even though he was scared of her. Scout needed courage to obey Atticus and get out of bed even though she didn't know what was happening.

Chapter 5 & 6
In chapter 5, Scout asked Miss Maudie about Boo Radley and asked if he was alive. Miss Maudie had said she knew he was alive because no one had carried him out yet. Later in the chapter, Jem and Dill were talking about going into the Radley house to leave a note for Mr. Radley. Dill and Jem didn't want Scout to come because she would ruin everything. Later on, Atticus had come home and saw the note they wrote and was upset.
In chapter 6, Jem, Dill and Scout had gone into the Radley house and had saw his shadow. The heard a gunshot and ran out of house. They ran under the schoolyard fence and got back to their houses. They saw a big crowd of people and heard that Mr. Arthur had shot at a Negro. Mr. Arthur said if he saw another Negro then he woukd shoot it and kill it.

Chapter 4
When Scout was chewing the gum that she found, Jem was suspicious. He asked her where she found it and she said near the Radley's house. Jem told her to spit it out because she doesn't know where it was before she found. Jem was angry that Scout founh the gum near the Radley's yard because of all the things that they heard about the Radley's. I think that Scout finding the gum in the Radley's yard could play a role later on in the book.
